Anatomy of a deck

Deck

A collection of Sections and Slides that make up a presentation.

Welcome slide

Introduces the deck.

  • Compulsory
  • Cannot be turned off
  • Cannot be sorted
  • Cannot contain subslides

Section

A group of slides with a shared topic/subject.

Title slide

Introduces a section.

  • Each section must include a title slide design
  • Can be turned off
  • Cannot contain subslides

Slide

Discusses a single topic using copy, graphs, illustrations, animations and user interactions.

  • Can only be sorted within their allocated section

Subslide

Allows the user to drill further down into a topic.

Overlay

Auxiliary information that adds to a slide’s content but is too detailed to fit in the layout.

Overlays can be included in PDFs if required.

Footnotes

Used for information such as sources and disclaimers, footnotes commonly present themselves as a toggle, that when activated expands to display its contents in a strip along the bottom of the slide.
